new lml arrived today...slow!!!

Postby rlittlefellow on Wed Nov 11, 2009 7:14 pm

hey, well i decided to sell my smallframe vespa cutdown and have just recieved today my new lml...first impressions are good...however the speed issue. I know the bike is new and will require a run in but i cheekly pushed it and it reached 45mph woopee. I know the restrictions imposed on the scoot with regards to air filters i took the air filter out under the seat but i noticed a lot of thick foam inside there too? do i take this out as well and ifso how? just pull it out?. I have ordered a new px air filter to replace the lml one too. The exhaust is my next question...after changing/removing all filters and then swapping exhaust for say a standard sito exhaust will i have to re-jet the carb or will it be fine as standard...also will i see much difference in performance?

cheers

read the article in scootering about what they did - it produced good results for little outlay

next step would be a barrel kit

best of luck

Reguarding the warranty on ur new LML I'd touch nothing until it expires then you can start mucking about with wanting it too go faster
Just my opinion but if anything went wrong with the engine and they find out you have messed with it, they will wash their hands and walk away from it leaving you in the s**t :?

If you've removed the air filter you will need to upjet. By doing so you are allowing more air into the engine, and will require more fuel to avoid the mixture being weak.

What Guy forgets to mention is that a lean running engine - ESPECIALLY ON AN ENGINE THAT IS DESIGNED TO RUN LEAN - will rapidly lead to you putting a nice hole in your piston, invalidating your warranty and leaving you neck deep in the brown smelly stuff.

Put it all back now, and then find the article somewhere before it's too late.

Now pull the plug and nope its not white, if it is then you may already have done damage, also there is a reason why manufacturers tell you not to exceed certain speeds during running in, and while I appreciate the temptation is strong to wind it open...... DON'T!

(That reminds me, you may actually get lucky... I know of plenty of shops that overjet new bikes to stop their owners abusing them during running in. This would 1 - allow you to open the throttle with minimal risk, and 2) supply more fuel to compensate for you pulling all the foam out.... But don't count on it!)

I waited a year with mine just used it round town and my Vep for longer faster rides . Once the waranty period was over Sito plus ,98 main , PX filter , mixture screw 1 1/2 turns pulls like a train in comparison to standard set up sit happily a 55mph + all day and will do just over 60 if pushed not bad for a 125 on a fairly standard set up :D

The Nylogrip tyres are w**k get them changed .
If it aint broke fix it till it is .

Thanks for the comments guys and mr m thanks for a rough guide there with setup.....i never rode the bike with filters removed ive put them back in now and leaving it standard for the time being at least until engine is run-in managed to get 120 miles done yesterday at max speed of 30mph...few pissed off car drivers ha ha. But I cant put off buying a new exhaust just not sure what to get any suggestions....sito plus simonini sterling? theres loads of em im looking for decent speed but more grunt in lower gears for hills etc...

I've just derestricted a mate's LML Toscana today. I replaced the exhaust with a standard PX125 pipe, removed filter under seat, cut out filters from carb air filter and glued the blue 1 back in, changed main jet from 94 to 98, changed mixer tube from E3 to BE5 and changed idle jet to a 45-160. Took it for a test run and its very crisp and more responsive than it was. Think this is what the article in scootering sugested too.

PXPaul.... the Evo would be spot on for a 210. Useless on a bog stock 125 though! The 210 revs much harder than a 125 ever will, and thats where the Evo gives the extra kick :)
