seriously considering buying a px125

Postby vespa'n'brogues on Thu Nov 05, 2009 1:52 pm

hi all
im new here :)

little about me,
Im 17 6ft2 ,big footed and due to recent house move im looking for a change of lifestyle as i was into classic fords, mk1 escort,mk2 escorts, capri*the car you always promised yourself* well thats what i thought until i tried to get insured when we moved, i couldnt so.

Im now liking the mod scene alot and would just like to know how much would a 125 vespa cost? as ive seen the new style ones eg et4 and i much prefer the older style (classic proper vespa look) no ofence to anybody just a personal opinion as i like the classic look with everything

how much should i expect to pay for:

a PX 125 with a full years mot and tax that doesnt need any work or very little work eg might be paintwork that lets it down.
or a px 125 that needs minor work and an mot and taxing.

i have also seen the T5 model and would like to know really what is the cheapest model of vespa that has the classic looks.

also i would just like to ask, what is the top speed of a 125 vespa px,T5 that is standard as ive heard its around 50-60mph, and just wondered is there anything i could do to make it a little faster eg 10-20 mph quicker as i will using the bike for work.

Thanks
Rob:P

Welcome to the forum

If you want classic you'll need to look at Vespas before the PX, Vespas pre '79 would be considered 'classic'

As a benchmark, PX125 for sale near me, 2008, 600km £1,800, entry level would be from £250 up..

Or a pre PX Sportiqe/VBB etc with a PX125 engine fitted from £1,500 up..

T5 is quicker and have the advantage that you can take your test on one and they do tend to hold their value well. You will pay a bit more for an equiv T5 to a P125X for that reason.

However fast (LOL) they are to start with, by the time you've overloaded it with shiny stuff to the extent that it looks like the B&Q bathroom department, it'll only be pulling 40 anyway.

Oh, and PLEASE don't put any chrome bits on a Mk1 (Rectangular headlamp) T5. It really misses the point of having a sports orientated scooter. Its like towing a caravan with an Escort Mexico....

(I'd recommend an LML PX125 clone, exactly the same scooter but usually about 25% cheaper)

haha ok i get your point about the chrome on a mk1 lol

in response as i dont know too much about vepsa's by the classic look i was talking in the sense of the looks as ive seen the newish ones that are more rounded off and i just like the older look.

but thanks for the info :)

also if i payed 1k+ for a px or t5 then if its been looked after etc then should it be reliable as i will be riding it for some time and will be doing a bit of mileage with the girlfreind on the back too

thanks

Pass your test and buy a P2 then. A P125 with a pillion isn't fun :(

I agree, better still, get yourself a px125 and get the mrs one too!
If you could ride a vespa at the speed of light, would the headlight work???

well my initial idea is to get my cbt sorted and get a 125 to ride around on eg back n forth to work n maybe once ive passed my bike test keep the 125 and still use it for work and maybe goto the coast every now n then and get a bigger bike eg GPz 900R and use that for taking the mrs out on and keep the vespa for a sunday ride out or just see if i can get a 200cc or 250cc vespa if i can... i know you can get 50cc and 125cc vespa's not sure if you can buy a vespa thats bigger than a 125....

well thanks for your help
if anyone know anywhere where i can read up on the different type's of vespa's etc
much appreciated:P

thanks

Geared Vespas run out at 200cc, auto ones at 300cc.

I've carried far greater weight than that on my own - I'm currently at 15 stone and I've lost a bit - and have carried pillions. A P125 isn't going to enjoy the experience, a P2 will find it better, but in all honesty buy an auto GTS and you'll have a lot fewer struggles on your hands.

I would check out eddybullet.com The Vespa clone LML is more or less covered on that site. Engine spec ect. and if you buy the LML it is built better has a better paintjob than any of the shelf PX scooter will ever have. The LML is about £1800 but if you want extras can go upto £2500, that is about the price of a nos PX. You also dont have to bother with your MOT for 3 years.

Click on the "engine options" when you see one you like.

These scooters are made in India and there has been some good reports about them
