hi.. new to the forum and relatively new vespa owner.. i'm from manchester but moved over to berlin in the summer for work and have an '87 px200 to get me around town.. loving it so far and now wondering what i can do to improve / maintain it.. it's a cheap and cheerful number with a good engine but a little tatty so most focus on the cosmetics.. should also note that i'm not particularly mechanical but hope to become more so.. so forgive any daft questions..

the seat is badly ripped / patched up.. where's a good place to buy another one for cheap / second hand.. (i don't mind paying postage from the uk.. or maybe german ebay?). is it easy enough to fit, the current seat has a chrome grab rail attached.. hoping that can be transfered simply?

the speedo lens is cracked.. how tricky is it to take that unit apart and replace..?

any products you can recommend to prevent rust ?

last question (for now).. it has a dellorto carb which was leaking oil so after talking to a mechanic we disconnected the oil feed and i'm mixing it myself whilst he keeps an eye out for a second hand carb.. but my question is.. is that oil used for anything else? the level in the lens is quite low but wondering if that's okay for now?

thanks.. hadn't thought about replacing the whole speedo unit. just looked and there's some reasonably priced ones on ebay.. but what about the legality of changing the speedo over? ie potentially misrepresenting the mileage.. is this only an issue if i fail to disclose what happened when i come to sell it?

It's up too you if you want too disclose the mileage from the original speedo but not a lot of people bother Generally the condition of the scooter will tell most knowledgable folk weather the mileage is genuine.

If you've disconnected the oil pipe, I hope to god you've crimped the end of the little copper tube it was attached to, or you'll find out what 'running lean' means the hard way!
