6v to Electronic on a PX

Postby Ulster Vespa Club on Fri Oct 30, 2009 8:25 pm

i have an old 6v px engine which i'm gonna rebuild but want to make it electronic ignition. I'm wondering if its a striaght swap of crank, stator and flywheel probably from e-bay or is there more to it than that?

Thanks

Straight bolt ons, you dont need to change the crank, just the flywheel & stator....the only prob would be if you had the whole 6v non-indicator scoot, as you'd need to change the loom too.

Why would you change the loom Guy? All that would need to be changed would be the horn and bulbs, they didn't use a thiner guage wire did they?

The looms a fucker, the whole things more like a 150 super loom than a P range one. Its a long time since I did it, 10 years or so, but I remember severe greif trying to get all electrics working, whereas on a previous job getting everything working on a Rally 180 with orig loom and a T5 motor was a piece of piss. Its got several inputs to the loom instead of one in, one out, and trying to run the lot via a PX reg it just wasnt having it at all. MIght have been the case that the loom on that particular bike had other issues, but I dont know.

Anyway...as regards the motor the stator & flywheel are straight swaps!!

Fair enough, never had a 6v one, but thinking about 150 Super looms, I remember having fun with that wiring (add that to the evil handling, slow, ugly etc etc list!) on one of mine.
