tuning px 125

Postby paulinderbyshire on Fri Nov 21, 2008 8:48 pm

hello again . i am thinking of tuning my px 125 and want to know that if i put a 166 malossi kit on it with a 26mm carb and sterling exhaust will this increase performance . dont want to do too much as money is tight and not too knowledgable on vespa engines ?? :D

I have a dr180 kit, £110 a p200 carburettor £50, and a Jim Lomas rightside exhaust £220. I will be putting a 23 tooth cosa clutch and a lightened flywheel on closer to the summer, but what i have done already has made a huge difference. I have the JL exhaust because i prefer the looks, i have been told that the Sito Plus exhaust £70 is just as good and keeps the scooter looks as standard.

yeah but the 166 aint that much more expensive than a 180 and it works great with a simonini pipe.
The only way to learn is to do stuff, Im 22 and can fully rebuild an engine and rest of the scooter and learnt by doing it.

if hes fittin a kit hes better of changing the crank and gettin the bearins checked out as well. other wise if it fails....................hello another kit

people have just gotta realise that its just a bit of italian metal and real easy to work on.

Why change the crank? Just cut the original to suit.

Stay away from lightened flywheels if you've ported the thing properly too, especially with a Mazza crank (No, I can't spell it either)

I'd go Polini 177
Port the engine, cut the crank
24mm P2 carb as standard - don't use a T5 24mm carb
Polini pipe.

Have to agree with the seals and bearings check though.

yeh, he could strip it, buy loadsa other stuff, bugger his crank cos he hasnt got much knowledge, then pay someone to put it right, but he cant, cos he hasnt got much money! the guy is asking for a cheap set up, which he wants to put on himself. what ive recomended would suit him and his pocket down to the ground. if ya want a good kit for a px 125, get a quattrini miile miglia 172. ive not rode one yet, but cooky at chiselspeed said they ROCK! and thats good enough for me. "spensive tho.

Fair point, DR kits are the best bolt on and go by a mile, but you get jack all extra performance out of them compared to a Polini for distance or a Malossi for hooliganing around town when set up right?

For not much more money you could source a P2 engine if you want reliability the easy way.

Naturally, that IS assuming the test will be passed :D :D :D ;)

just normal banter paul, everyone goes "thats the best" "no thats the best" "lying get! this is the best!" etc. etc. if no one replied, it would be crap. ideas abound, and the people who come on here give good advice the majority of the time, so nowts the bother. WW3 occurs on other channels mate! get in touch with a local scooter club, if not already in one, and mebeeze they can give you a hand fitting whatever kit you get. feel free to ask further advice if needed , the members will be more than happy to help.
