There are only really three components to the speedo, none of which will have been disturbed by playing with the rear wheel/brakes.
Firstly, make sure the cable hasn't risen up out of the wheel at the front. Its a pretty crap design and is prone to this.
Secondly, look inside the hub to make sure the little plastic cog hasn't jammed. You'll be able to see straight away if it has, it'll have lost some teeth on the side facing you.
Thirdly, the speedo cable at the top may have been dislodged. This is unlikely, but worth checking. Carefully remove the handlebar top/speedo and check that it is all still connected.
Thats pretty much it, except to point out that Vespa speedos don't tend to last for long anyway, either get used to fixing it, or get used to riding without. Most people get used to their absence pretty quickly!
