registering vespa problem

Postby Lost? on Mon Nov 03, 2008 5:40 pm

Im in the midst of trying to register my 1966 vespa.
I have a letter from the vespa club of britain obtained in 2005 stating my scooter was made by piaggio italy, and that its a 1966 super.

The problem is this, the dvla have returned my application as they claim the letter does not give the details of who it was made by, my arguement being that it states "built by piaggio italy" but they say there is no mention of "vespa" in the letter. Despite it being from the vespa club of great britain!

Just got back from the dvla who are argueing the point that it is not clear if my scooter is a piaggio, as stated on the letter, or a vespa.....WTF?? They have accepted my forms again, but the guy claims i will get them back again, and need more proof of what my scooter is.

What should i tell these morons at the dvla?? Have policies changed since the letter was issued in 2005?

Please help, so close to getting it on the road!!

the only 'vespa' that dvla recognise is the douglas vespa, why don't you register it as a piaggio because that's what it is.vespa is the model not the manufacturer.

Dont get me started on the DVLA im still waiting to see whats going to happen with mine been 3 weeks now and still waiting to see if i get a reg or not.

Got all paperwork date cert, mot etc i even have a letter from Eric Brockway dated 1994 saying that its a 92L2 1958 blue in colour came out of the douglas factory in bristol on October 3rd it then carries on to say what shop it went to and who sold it and even has 3 more owners on the letter. So no problem i thought wrong!!

The trouble i had was the frame number was so worn out could only see the last 5 numbers even though they matched up with the engine as they are the same on these models. So i thought if i take it up there they wont let me have a reg as you cant read it all so i had a plate made which is legal as i am not changing the number but just allowing it to be read better checked this out first.

Off i went for inspection and some women with a wasp up her a**e called me over and looked at the engine and then the frame and says "thats a bit new aint it only i think the bike is newer than you say it is" so after explaining the scoot was only built from 1956-1959 how new did she think it was only to turn around and she had gone and just shouts back "you will be hearing from us" what the hell does that mean? oh well they say no news is good news and not only that the cops aint been round to take it away YET!!

lets hope we both get sorted mate
