Just picked my 1964 smallframe up from garage having had it in for re-threading wher the exhaust bolts on and also some electrics.
The exhaust has been sorted by helicoil hipefully now it wont fall of all the time.
The electrical problem was that the rear brake light and brake light was on constant and when i pressed the the brake lever the entire rear light would go out. The mechanic also noticed that when the brake pedal was pressed the main headlamp would dim regardless of revs (non battery model).
He has told me that they maybe a problem with the "generator" not producing enough electricity to run the lights. By generator im thinking he's talking about the the part behind the flywheel? damn i must learn the parts on my scoot.
Well my theory is that if when the brake pedal is not pressed and both rear light and brake are shining bright the front lamp is not affected then it must be producing enough power so the problem must lie elswhere.
Now I know that i replaced the rear brake cable a few weeks ago and when taking off the brake pedal the two wires connected to the brake pedal came out and im not sure if i put them in the wrong way round? could this be the cause of the rear brake light staying on and switching off when pedal is pressed?
I dont wanna take the brake pedal off again as im crap at tightening up the cable again and i really need the scoot for work.
Any oppinions as always will be really aprreciated. Im also gonna try a different mechanic for second opinion dont want to buy parts I dont need.
