convert horn to AC

Postby MossY on Thu Jul 02, 2009 11:26 pm

last question.... for now.

My scooter has been wired as per this scheme...

http://modvespa.com/wp-content/uploads/ ... -72ves.pdf

Now, i only have an AC horn and have run out of cash, so.... is it possible to conert the horn supply to AC. is it simply a case of moving the wire that goes to the horn and then onto the switch to the AC side of the rectifier rather than on the DC side as it is at the mo?

can anyone tell me the reason that the DC + continues to the switch after the horn?? from what i can see, all the lights are AC except the brake light, and this doesnt get its supply from the switch.

if i remove the AC supply to the switch, just what will this affect??

Cheers,
MossY

It is possible, I've done it.

You'll need to patch the DC line to the horn into the AC side of the reg/rec and change the horn to an AC one.

I *think" that was about it, but I've also got a vague memory that I had to patch the wire back into the main loom to complete the circuit as I think I developed faults. Its been a couple of years since I did it though...
Thats the theory.. go and play with it now :D

the only worry i have is the dc supply that continues to the switch. i cant see a reason why there is a DC line to the switch, but do i need to keep this connection and run a new AC line for the horn?

Use the same wire to the switch, then down to the horn and back up again. I think I patched mine into the main loom on the way back up. If I get chance tomorrow I'll take a look.
