Tidying up my PX125...

Postby PX125_Dave on Thu Sep 03, 2009 11:48 am

I'm new to scootering and I've just bought a PX125 (2004) in pretty good but not A1 condition. Not looking to turn it into a show-scooter, I intend to ride it as much as possible but I do want it tidied up a bit. I know there are loads of places around but can you give me any advice on who / where will do a good job for the following? Obviously I expect to pay a bit for a good job / time / parts etc. I'm based in the NW.

New front shock (chrome or coated) and assembly fitted to replace rusting one
Front fork requiring chroming, coating, or painting to tidy up signs of age / rust
Odd chips and marks to the silver paintwork to be done, some small rust bubbles on floor
Spare wheel for under side panel
Stainless steel or chrome parts required and fitted for; centre stand, spare wheel bracket and cover, standard exhaust, kickstart, levers, helmet hook, rear backrest and carrier, tax disc holder.

You could save yourself a packet and do most of the work yourself, is NW North West? If so try Turners in Ellesmere Port for parts, very competitive and their mechanic is very approachable, only a small shop so you would be helping a little business keep going, Tel no is: 0151 348 0900. I get all my parts from there and they are always friendly and helpful.

If you're in the Blackburn area, Scootlife at Darwen also come recommended, good prices and good service.

i would personally powder coat your bits and bobs if you are gonna ride it a lot - i ended up taking all my chrome bars etc off mine cos they were rusting up no matter how often i cleaned and waxed em ! although living on the coast near blackpool could be a reason (salty sea air )

Any recommendations for powder coating companies? Any in the North West?

well, erm. mmm, no! lol

You know what its like Andy you find a good place and stick with it, these guys who work there must be reaching (or even passed) retirement age and know their stuff, always good to me even though he takes all my money off me when I go in, a great shop.

Just spoke to Andy at Turners of Merseyside. Friendly and helpful guy. Might go down the route of some powder coating rather than chroming on forks and shocks...
