I'm now confused

Postby composimmonite on Thu Oct 29, 2009 2:43 pm

Looking for what the prefix and suffix to my VIN number mean I've come across this -
http://www.public.iastate.edu/~gbh/1979 ... P200E.html
Same colour and model as mine :?
What is strange is it has the same DGM 16773 OM VSX 1T identity.
Am I therefore right in assuming that the chassis / frame number ISN'T 16773 and that there is another number stamped under the VSX 1T that is lost in the heavy rust pitting ?

Thanks.

Yes mate, as said in your other thread, the frame number follows the prefix, not before or above it..

Thanks.

It looks like the only way I'm going to be able to read the number then is by using CSI (UK) type techniques as too much rust pitting for naked eye

Is it rusted or ground off? my '59 VBA was very badly rusted but in the end managed to make out the number and get a rubbing from it.

Try cleaning up the other side of the panel, if it's been stamped well, good chance you will be able to see the impression on the other side.

Presume the scooter is already reg as you have the V5, so you could just get a new rivet on plate made up with the frame number, blanks are available to do this.
